Empowering Communities Through Early Detection, Treatment & Education

High blood pressure is a leading cause of heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease, yet it often goes undiagnosed until serious complications develop. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 40.5% of adults aged 30–79 in Senegal are living with hypertension, but only 7% have their blood pressure under control. There is need for greater access to screening, medical care, health education, and essential medications. Through our Hypertension Prevention & Care Project, Cellal provides these critical services, empowering individuals to manage their health, prevent complications, and live longer, healthier lives.

Early Detection Saves Lives

Hypertension often develops without noticeable symptoms, making regular screening and ongoing care essential.

Without treatment, uncontrolled high blood pressure can increase the risk of:

• Heart disease

• Stroke

• Kidney disease

• Vision loss

• Heart failure

• Premature death

Through early diagnosis, education, and consistent treatment, many of these complications can be prevented.

Project Goals

The Hypertension Prevention & Care Project works to:

• Provide affordable or free hypertension medications

• Connect patients with medical care and follow-up services

• Educate communities about prevention and healthy lifestyles

• Improve long-term disease management

• Reduce preventable complications from uncontrolled hypertension
